New Jersey High School Students Win Awards in State-Sponsored Art Contest

New Jersey Department of Human Services Art Contest Celebrates its Tenth Year of Educating Young People on the Responsibilities of Parenthood

Trenton, NJ - Six New Jersey high school students are the winners of the New Jersey Department of Human Services (DHS) Statewide Teen Media Contest.  The contest, in its tenth year, helps the New Jersey Department of Family Development reinforce its mission to instill a sense of parental responsibility in New Jersey's youth.

The 2005 theme of the Teen Media Contest was 'Depict How You Would Spend a Day with Your Child.'  The art contest, which was open to all New Jersey high school students, included two categories:  original hand-drawn artwork and photography. 

Winners receive U.S. Savings Bonds along with certificates of achievement at an awards ceremony on Tuesday, June 7, at Mercer County Waterfront Park in Trenton prior to a 7:05 p.m. Trenton Thunder baseball game.

In the hand-drawn category, first place went to Priscilla Romero of Passaic County Technical Institute for her piece entitled Family Days, second place went to Jonathan Perez, also of Passaic County Technical Institute, for his piece entitled Mornings with Dad.  Third place was awarded to Valerie Sweet of Hunterdon County Polytech for her piece Father and Son.

In the photography category, first place went to Kristen Paul of Jefferson Township High School for her photograph entitled Cherished Moments.  Second place was awarded to Kerri Symon of Hunterdon County Polytech for her photograph Journal Entry.  The third place winner was Diana Tumidajski of Jefferson Township High School for Root Beer Floats with Grandpa.
